My work explores softness, structure, and the tension in between—how we hold things together, and what happens when we begin to come apart. In this series, I use weaving as a visual and material language to reflect on themes of control, vulnerability, separation, and connection. Each piece investigates the threshold between stability and change through color, texture, and rhythm.

These fiber-based works are handwoven on a frame loom using a combination of cotton, wool, and raffia. Each finished piece measures approximately 8” x 8”, mounted on canvas-covered cradled wood panels for a clean, gallery-style presentation. All pieces are ready to hang and professionally finished.

I draw inspiration from music, memory, and material contrast—cotton and raffia, wool and shadow. The titles, all drawn from 1990s songs, add a personal layer to the work—quiet signals for anyone who recognizes them, and evocative phrases for those who don’t. Whether sharp-edged or quietly unraveled, these woven studies offer small spaces for pause and reflection.

As someone who has experienced the healing power of creative expression firsthand, I’m deeply moved by Art for the Journey’s mission. Art offers space to process, to connect, and to feel seen. I believe it should be accessible to everyone—not just as a luxury, but as a tool for reflection, resilience, and joy.

This gala is a beautiful example of how art can bring people together across difference. I’m honored to be a part of it, and grateful for the opportunity to support the transformational work you’re doing in the Richmond community.
