As a former art teacher and school administrator who supported artist-in-residence programs in schools, I have been rejuvenated in my return to watercolor painting. For many years, I took infrequent opportunities to draw and paint. Now I’m experiencing a new sense of challenge and of accomplishment that I enjoyed seeing in students throughout my career.
I believe creativity is a central part of who we are as humans created in God’s image. Having just learned about Art for the Journey, I am encouraged to see the organization’s reach across all ages and multiple communities in need. I have witnessed first-hand how art has helped individual students develop confidence and communication skills. I have seen groups of students come together in teams to complete large, beautiful projects that none could have accomplished together because they were committed to a specific project vision. I have seen individuals develop a sense of pride and an appreciation for what others can produce as they participated in an art community. Art for the Journey is supporting multiple organizations in their work to “transform lives through art,” truly.
