Ice Forest

” It’s the ripple not the sea, it’s the pebble not the stream, not the garden but the stone”.
These words by composer Stephen Sondheim serve as an inspiration and challenge for me to look closely, to find and capture the fragment that expresses the whole. Forgoing color for black and white in this image appealed to me to bring out the structure of the form: a way for focusing attention on the smooth pale shapes set off with crisp dark spikes. My goal is to inspire those who see my work to look more deeply at the world around them, to discover beauty in unusual places.
