While touring Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens last spring, I was delighted to find many Jack in the Pulpit plants in bloom. The variety I found there is different from any I have seen in the wild, with “Jack” well-hidden under the striped hoods of the plants. I loved the stripes against the woodsy background, took a photograph and then used the photo to make my painting.
I believe creativity is a central part of who we are as humans created in God’s image. Having just learned about Art for the Journey, I am encouraged to see the organization’s reach across all ages and multiple communities in need. I have witnessed first-hand how art has helped individual students develop confidence and communication skills. I have seen groups of students come together in teams to complete large, beautiful projects that none could have accomplished together because they were committed to a specific project vision. I have seen individuals develop a sense of pride and an appreciation for what others can produce as they participated in an art community. Art for the Journey is supporting multiple organizations in their work to “transform lives through art,” truly.
