I am a native of Central Virginia, born and bred.
A love of drawing the human face and form led me to study commercial art at Virginia Commonwealth University but it wasn’t until I moved to Northern Virginia that I discovered oil painting. I devoted every spare moment to taking workshops and vowed to master this new passion.
A move to Los Angeles enabled me to study with well-known California figurative painters and over my thirteen years there I showed my work in galleries in West Hollywood, North Hollywood and throughout the San Fernando Valley. My work has won awards and has been used by independent filmmakers for film projects as well as television.
My aim with my work is to capture both the stillness of a moment and the movement of emotion through my realistic yet slightly impressionistic style. It is my intention to represent my subjects in a way that is evocative and resonant with the viewer.

As an artist who has worked in healthcare for 6+ years (admin assistant in the leadership suite of Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital), I can attest to the need for the healing balm of creativity in fostering resilience. The pandemic was brutal on the mental health of our community and I think we are still healing from it. I would love to be a part of this show and learn more about Art for the Journey and what I might contribute. I hope this painting of my Mother, painted from a photo I took of her in her PCP’s waiting room captures the worry and uncertainty experienced by our elderly loved ones.
