In the past, my art has been figurative, dealing with human emotion as perceived through body language. More recently, as I looked to expand my work to landscapes, I began snapping photos on drives to attempt to capture the nature that lies in the rural Virginia I call home. While my landscapes lack figures, they address the intersection of humanity (existing in roads, guard rails, fences, etc.) simultaneously harmonizing and interfering with nature. Despite the scenes capturing beauty, each also shows the divides put in place in nearly every modern landscape. I hope these pieces can evoke peace and nostalgia (maybe you’ve been along these roads before!) while also sparking thought about our place in nature.
